Professional Bio
What is there to say?
I love to write, but I was never privy to an official creative writing education beyond a few courses in high school and college.
I'm a licensed teacher in North Carolina. I have taught English/ Language Arts in grades 7 through 12 for 6+ years. The first five years were at a small charter school where I also taught Latin I and was the Journalism Adviser for the program's primary year. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in my local school system and a private Latin tutor.
While I've earned my Associate's Degree in Paralegal Technologies, I've only been employed in a law office as their Runner.
But my love lies in the words, in writing. And so I've taken time out to self-publish a Christian fiction novel (For the Sake of Appearances) under my pen name Robin Nicole and now that health pulls me out of the traditional workforce, I've returned to my childhood love of writing.
Is it a steady paycheck? Not yet. Could it become one? That's for God to determine, but I'm more willing and available to do my part in helping it be so.
I'm not one of those teenage, dreamy, flighty girls throwing words onto the screen just because my heart tells me, regardless of the spelling and other grammar goofs. (Been there, done that, and wow, those are embarrassing little bits. Ironically, though, as is with all learning in life, those rosy-cheeked remembrances have not become ashes in the fire, but are tucked safely away in folders and filing cabinets under and next to my bed.) No, I am a serious writer. I take my craft to heart, and that's what it is - a craft. Like all skills, there are rules to learn and follow (and sometimes break, when called for), and there are mistakes to correct along the way.
And while it has taken me years to mature beyond the needless embarrassment at my lack of a "real job" I am proud to say I am a writer.
I have been a teacher. Yes. And a part of me always will be. But that (along with others) is just a job.
I am a wife. I am a mother. I am a little sister. I am a sister-in-law. I am a daughter. I am a daughter-in-law.
I am a writer.
